Close associate of Old City MLA accused in murder case

Mohammed Imran Khan accused in the murder of a 30-year-old businessman at Mir Alam Mandi in January was arrested on Tuesday by Central Crime Station (CCS) police. He is said to be a close associate of an MLA from the Old City. He was named as a key accomplice among the 11 persons arrested in the case.

As per the details Mohammed Ali, a poultry feed businessman, was stabbed and beaten to death on January 21 night, near his shop by a group of hooligans after he had an argument with them over playing cricket in front of his shop with stones.

Mir Chowk police had arrested 11 persons in the case. Initially the police named Imran Khan in the FIR but his name was later removed from the FIR allegedly due to political pressure.

The case was transferred to the CCS when the family members of the victim blamed Mir Chowk police for removing Imran’s name from the FIR due to political pressure.

On the basis of the statements given by three eyewitnesses, including the victim’s father, brother and an employee Imran was arrested on Tuesday and has been remanded in judicial custody.
