CLMCI seeks action against AP cops involved in Sohrabuddin case

Hyderabad, January 14: The Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee of India (CLMCI) has urged the Andhra Pradesh government to immediately suspend those police officers who were allegedly involved in the killings of Ujjain resident Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kausar Bi.

CLMCI General Secretary Lateef Md Khan contended in a statement here that it was a contract killing by Marble Mafia and crores of Rupees had changed hands between police and the mafia.

According to the Geeta Johri report, five sub-inspectors and inspectors had been shown absconding and their names are unknown.

But the CLMCI had brought the names of those five police officers into light and those names had been given to the authorities concerned, he said. The facts should be brought before people and the state government should extend its cooperation to the CBI, Mr Khan said.

Sohrabuddin was allegedly shot dead by the Gujarat police on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in November, 2005. Soon after, Sohrabuddin’s wife Kausar Bi went missing. It was alleged that his wife and the couple’s friend Tulsiram Prajapati, who too was a witness to Sohrabuddin’s killing, were also killed by the police to destroy evidence. The Gujarat, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh police were allegedly involved in the case.
