Washington, March 06: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton admitted that her country’s drug demand is “part of the problem” fueling Central America’s drug wars.
“The United States under the Obama administration recognizes and accepts its share of responsibility for the problems posed by drug trafficking in this region,” she told reporters ahead of talks in Guatemalan.
On Friday Clinton was in Guatemala for a meeting with leaders and senior officials from eight Central American nations at which she also urged recognition of the new, post-coup government of Honduras.
In Central America, only Costa Rica and Panama have recognized the new government in Honduras. Neighboring Nicaragua is among those strongly opposed. In South America, Brazil and Argentina are resisting recognition.
