Muzaffarnagar, October 20: Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband and several Muslim outfits have criticised the Centre’s decision to hike the air fare for Haj pilgrims, terming the decision as “inhuman”.
“To hike the air fare at the eleventh hour is very inhuman. The decision has affected the pilgrims and upset their budget,” Vice Chancellor of the seminary Maulana Margoob Rehman today said here.
The deputy vice chancellor also echoed similar views.
President of Uttar Pradesh Imam Organisation Mufti Zulfikar has also opposed the Centre’s move. “The decision should be withdrawn immediately.”
Terming the increase in air-fare as “illegal”, National President of Jamiat-e-Ulema Hind demanded that the decision should be withdrawn with immediate effect.
The cabinet yesterday decided that pilgrims going for the month-long Haj this year will have to shell out Rs.4,000 more for air fare from the existing Rs.12,000.
