Hyderabad: The classes at the Hyderabad Central University, which were suspended following Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula’s suicide, began today morning after a hiatus of over 10 days.
The students have been protesting and boycotting classes demanding removal of the Vice Chancellor Appa Rao Podile and action against those who were responsible for the suicide.
On Wednesday, interim Vice Chancellor Vipin Srivastava’s effort to pacify the protesting students went in vain after the students sent him back by shouting slogans of “go back”.
However, students seemed to have heeded to Srivastava’s appeal to attend classes to save a semester of the academic year.
Rohith Vemula, a Dalit research scholar, was found hanging at the Central University’s hostel room on January 17.
He was among the five research scholars, suspended by the Hyderabad Central University (HCU) in August last year.
The HCU has already revoked suspension of the four students, following uproar over Vemula’s suicide.
