Chandigarh, July 07: After a brief hiatus on Sunday, the counselling for centralised admissions to Class XI in government schools resumed at GMSSS-10 today. Around 628 students in the percentage bracket of 68 per cent and above were admitted on Monday, taking the total admission tally to 3,243 till date.
Humanities and vocational streams, which have received a poor response from students till now, did not show much improvement with only 30 and 36 admissions respectively.
Talking to Newsline, principal Anujit Kaur said: “This is perhaps the first time when just a handful of students have opted for the Arts stream. In a way, it shows the slow demise of languages.”
Meanwhile, Science remained the hot favourite with most popular schools already announcing the closure of admissions in the stream. Four other schools closed the doors on those seeking admission to the Science stream —-GMSSS-40 (72.6 per cent), GMSSS-21 (71.8 per cent), GMSSS-46 (71.6 per cent) and GMSSS-10 (68.8 per cent). Of the total seats in the Science stream, approximately 850 are still vacant.
Students were also seen making a beeline for schools offering Commerce stream. Schools which have already closed admissions are — GMSSS-16, GMSSS-35 and GMSSS-37. Three more schools were added to the list today — GMSSS-19 (72.6 per cent), GMSSS-MHC (72 per cent) and GMSSS-40 (69.4 per cent).
