The police today arrested nine students, all minors on the charges of gang raping a class X student of a high school under Birsa Panchayat, about 30kms from here. Police said two girl students were returning home from their school on cycles on last Thursday when nine students who were following them started eveteasing them. When the two girls protested, they overpowered them and forcibly took them to the nearby jungle. One of the two girls managed to escape, the other was gangraped by the students. The matter came to the forefront when the girl narrated the incident to her father who lodged an FIR with the Birsa police station. Rourkela Additional Superintendent of Police Sudarshan Sethy said on the basis of the statement recorded by the victim, the police raided the houses of the students and arrested all of them. Later the students and the victim girl were sent for medical examination. Police said since all the nine students were minors, they would be produced before a juvenile court. UNI
