Class VI student dies during tution, 2 teachers arrested

A Class VI student today died during tuition at a private residential school here in Murshidabad district triggering a protest by locals who alleged that he died after being beaten up by two teachers.

A senior police officer said the body of Salim Seikh, student of class VI of the private residential school, was today sent for post-mortem but prima facie he died after falling on the floor during tuition after regular class hours at the school hostel last night.

Two teachers – Liton Seikh and Halim Seikh – were arrested on basis of police complaint lodged by the parents of Salim who accused them of having hit the boy after he failed to answer some questions causing his death, the officer said.

The hour-long road blockade in nearby arterial road by local people today in protest against the boy’s death caused disruption of vehicular traffic movement.

The two accused were produced in a local court which remanded them to two days’ police custody.
