Australia captain Michael Clarke is in doubts over his fitness for the start of the Cricket World Cup in February next year but is hoping that at some stage during the tournament he would be back.
Clarke had surgery on his injured hamstring after straining it for a fourth time in as many months during the first Test against India in Adelaide. He came out of the surgery feeling positive but conceded that he would struggle to be fit for Australia’s opening match against England on February 14.
The skipper claimed that he is really confident that the way things are progressing at the moment, that if he continue ticking the boxes, he would be a really good chance for the World Cup, Sport24 reported.
He added that he believes that he would certainly be fit and available for the majority of the World Cup.
Clarke is hoping that the selectors would give him the opportunity to come back.
Steven Smith has been filling in for Clarke to lead the Test side while George Bailey led the ODI team during the recent series victory at home against South Africa, the report added. (ANI)
