If the attitude of the people who talk to the Government eye to eye changes, the fights fought in the battlefield is changed into defeat in the portals of the Government. When Muslim youths are about to be exonerated, they are killed in an encounter by the police. Apparently, the purpose of the encounter is to kill a few people but through these killings the message is sent to the Muslim community that the sacrifice made by the innocent youths is meant to awaken the community and to warn about the forthcoming dangers. The leaders get a feeling that the blood of innocent people will go waste and the forthcoming dangers will also be increased. The encounter killings are not new. Saidabad has a long history of such encounters.
It is a fact that not a single police official was sent behind the bars in these encounters, be it Ishrath Jahan’s encounter in Gujarat, the death of Khateel Siddiqui in Jail, the death of Sohrabuddin or Kauser Bi. In all the killings, not a single Muslim leader knocked the door of the court. Sohrabuddin’s brother Rubabuddin approached Supreme Court and sent police officials to jail. In the murder case of Ishrath Jahan, it was her mother Shameem Banu and her sister Masrath Jahan who went round the courts. The leaders who were supposed to protect the community exploited these deaths politically and they kept quiet. These are the incidents of Gujarat. In our state, after every encounter routine process was observed and nothing happened. Those Muslim leaders who quote these incidents, can they tell us that how many representations they made and sent how many police officials to jail?
Shameem Banu and Masrath Jaha were not holding any public position but they were successful in getting the police uniform stripped from the IPS Officers.
The leaders of Mushtarika Majlis-e-Amal is organizing a meeting on 14th April at khilwath against these encounters. It is expected that more deviations would be caused from the routine procedures. It is said that the leaders would adopt a soft attitude towards the Government. They will also terrify the Muslim community about the police and they would try to patch up the matter. Those who struggled against Gujarat encounters got success and Police officials were sent to jail but those who struggled against the encounters in A.P. got the chairmanship of a commission. No single police officer was sent to jail. Today’s meeting has been kept away from politics. The floor leader of the local party has also not been invited for the function. It is also said that the leaders of the meeting have decided not to criticize the Government.
