Ahmedabad, June 08: The state education department seemed to be luring toppers to take up civil services as a career option. Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) on Sunday organised felicitation function for class X and calss XII state toppers of 2008 and 2009. There were close to 200 students who made it to the toppers’ list and were given certificates by the board.
The certificates were given away by state education minister, Raman Lal Vora. Also present GSHSEB officials principal secretary Hasmukh Adhiya, deputy chairman HK Patel, examination secretary Dinesh Patel and officer on special duty YM Vyas, along with various state district education officers.
“Students had turned up with their parents. What was different this year was that the students were persuaded to look at civil service as a career option. There was a presentation also done for students, showing them the life of a civil servant, the kind of change they can bring to the society and the kind of authority they hold,” said KK Rathod, DEO, Ahmedabad rural.
