Patna, August 25: Several civil and police personnel have been trapped at Raibari Mahua in Bihar’s West Champaran district due to flash floods caused by turbulent Gandak, prompting the authorities to engage NDRF personnel to evacuate them to safer places.
Officials told PTI that over 150 civil and police personnel went to the village following reports of communal tension over passage of a religious procession from near a cemetery yesterday.
Though the tension eased following mutual cooperation among locals, the officials with police force who reached there late yesterday got trapped due to flash floods caused by river Gandak due to incessant rains for the past over 72 hours.
“We have called National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams from Patna and Gopalganj to evacuate the marooned people and policemen, besides civil officials to safe places”, they said adding the evecuation exercise will be completed by tomorrow morning.
