Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar today said his Task Force personnel seized Rs 4.92 crore cash in the city’s checks in the last two days. Six accused were arrested in this connection.
The CP said special attention was paid to unauthorized cash evasion and after the election code came into force, a large amount of cash was seized. The amount was seized in the limits of Punjagutta, OU, Golconda and SR Nagar police stations. He said the sleuths conducted checks on April 6 and 7 and seized an amount of Rs 2,32,40,000 under several Police Stations limits.
On Saturday, the West Zone Task Force team raided an Apartment at Somajiguda and nabbed M. Satwik Reddy of My Home Hill View Apartments, Somajiguda and Sourav Goyal of Shivarampally and seized Rs 26,19,070. On enquiry, they did not provide any valid documents pertaining to cash. Simiarly, North Zone Task Force team intercepted a Swift car at Moosarambagh and apprehended to persons identified as Thandra Kasinath Reddy of Maithri Classic Apartment, Chitra Layout, L.B.Nagar and Bhukya Ravi, car driver of Mansurabad, L.B Nagar, who were smuggling tainted money of Rs 34,30,000. When questioned, the duo said the amount was meant to be distributed to booth level committee members to bribe voters in the limits of Malkajgiri MP Constituency.
On Sunday, the West Zone Task Force team intercepted a Toyota Innova car in Banjara Hills and apprehended one Mallareddy Srinivas of Kalyan Nagar, SR Nagar. He was carrying Rs one crore and failed to provide any documents pertaining to cash. Hence the police seized the cash and the car. In another case on Sunday, the Central Zone team intercepted one Toyota Innova car near Basava Tarakam Cancer Hospital, Banjara Hills and apprehended one Boddupalli Seenaiah alias Srinu of MLA Colony, Banjara Hills, who was carrying Rupees One Crore. The accused said he was taking the cash on the instructions of one Jayaveer Reddy to Nalgonda LS constituency to bribe voters.
