Hyderabad, November 10: In a bid to improve the city police infrastructure, home minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy today handed over new vehicles to the police and inaugurated the newly constructed Madannapet police station.
Speaking at two different functions in the city, the minister said the government would give all assistance to the police department in improving infrastructure to maintain law and order in the city.
She handed over nearly 20 Rakshak vehicles for street patrolling and several other vehicles used for transportation of policemen.
The minister also said that a huge number of Special Police Officers would be enrolled and the recruitment for 1,200 posts of subinspectors would be completed soon. “The government has agreed to induct 1,000 SPO’s and recruit 1,200 SI’s soon in view of the shortage of manpower in the police department,” she said.
She added that 250 computers have been sanctioned to the city police to deal with cyber crime.
Police said the newly inducted Rakshaks would be used at the police stations which are in sensitive areas and cater to a huge population.
Earlier, one Rakshak was sanctioned to each police station but several of them have become old and unfit for usage.
Director-General of Police K Aravinda Rao, city police commissioner A K Khan and others participated in the functions.
