New Delhi, February 16: All the liquor bottles in the city will soon have modern bar coding with Delhi government today clearing a long-pending proposal for the purpose.
Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta said bar coding of liquor bottles will help authorities check sale of spurious alcohol and plug the holes in revenue generation.
“The proposal to bar code the liquor bottles has been cleared. It will help the government keep a daily track record of brands being sold in each outlet of the city,” he told PTI.
Mehta said an initial investment of Rs 100 crore will be required for the project which will be borne by the manufacturers who will later collect it from consumers.
He said bar coding, which should come into force in six months time, will be made mandatory for all categories of liquor being sold in the national capital.
