City girl was not trained by ISIS: Police Commissioner

City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy on Saturday confirmed that a 19-year-old girl from Hyderabad, who wanted to join the terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and even went up to Turkey, returned to the city after changing her mind.

“The information is that one lady from Hyderabad city who has been staying in Qatar for the past 10 years happened to get influenced by another lady residing in her apartment. So both of them went till Turkey, where she changed her mind and she came back to India,” the Commissioner told media persons. He said that the City Police had no information that the girl got trained from the ISIS. “We don’t have any such information. It is not a fact that she joined ISIS and got training,” he said.

The Commissioner said that the incident happened about two months ago. When asked whether she was counselled, he said, “We have not brought her (back to India) she came back on her own.”

Mahender Reddy said that the Hyderabad City Police has been keep a close watch on the social networking sites. “We are actually scanning all the social networking sites, whoever gets in touch with this kind of literature (ISIS propaganda) on the social networking sites we are getting in touch with them and talking to their parents and talking to such youths. Police as a law enforcing agency we want to involve the community, parents and the youth. So far we have been successful. If anybody is trying to cross the ‘laxman-rekha’ then definitely law will take its own course,” he said. (INN)
