City to get IT projects worth Rs 2K Cr by March: Ponnala

Hyderabad, January 28: Information Technology Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Thursday stated that government expects business of Rs 2,000 crore to come to Hyderabad, with nine IT projects in the pipeline and expected to start by March.

Talking to media persons after releasing a brochure of `Advantage AP—Annual IT Summit 2011’ at Hotel Taj Krishna, Mr Lakshmaiah stated that Hyderabad occupies 41st position worldwide is the Fourth most preferred IT destination in the country.

He revealed that the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will inaugurate the Advantage AP—Annual IT Summit to be held on March 1 and 2 at Hyderabad International Convention Centre.

Mr Lakshmaiah revealed that the conference will provide a forum for IT and ITES companies, IT Infrastructure, Developers, academic institutions, governments and users of various industries to collaborate and leverage the enabling environment the state has to offer.

Revealing the whopping projections, the Minister said that some IT companies have signed Memorandum of Understanding with the governments of Mauritius and Poland to provide IT services, through which nine projects worth Rs 2,000 crore projects would come to state government by March.

Mr Lakshmaiah also revealed that in the financial year 2009-10, the state registered an export turnover of Rs 33,482 crore contributing a significant 15 percent to the nation’s overall IT exports. He said IT industry provided jobs to 15,000 youth this year against 12,000 last year.

The Minister also pointed out that Hyderabad has also topped NASSCOM’s list of super Nine IT and ITES destinations in the country.

Principal Secretary (IT and C) Ratna Prabha stated the state continues to maintain high growth rates in the IT sector. IT/ITES industry in the state contributes to .57 percent share of national GDP as against the national GDP share of 3.83 percent, she said.

Ms Ratna Prabha added that the government will offer special incentives to locate IT industry in Tier II and Tier III cities—Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Nalgonda and Warangal.
