Mumbai,May 23: In a rare double feat, Mumbai has thrown up both the ICSE (class X) and CBSE (class XII) all-India toppers this year.
Mumbai’s Mrittika Sen from Rajhans Vidyalaya, Andheri, emerged the joint topper for the CBSE (class XII) exams along with Tannvi Aggrawal from Apeejay School, Faridabad. Both students scored 98.4%. Mumbai boy Rishi Mehta joined the party, topping the ICSE examination nationwide with 99% (for English plus best four subjects).
Both boards announced their results on Wednesday, but the CBSE class XII scores were announced for only three regions on that day. CBSE released the remaining results on Friday. So Mrittika, whom the media announced as the Mumbai topper on Wednesday, has in fact turned out to be an all-India topper.
“I’m on top of the world. But it hasn’t yet sunk in. I really didn’t expect this. I mean, I didn’t even expect to be the Mumbai topper, let alone the all-India topper,’’ gushed an excited Mrittika.
Mrittika doesn’t fit the stereotypical image of a topper. She says she can neither study late into the night nor wake up early in the morning to cram.
Rather, she put in regular hours of study throughout the year, which left her with enough time for her share of fun too—from Harry Potter and Dan Brown to Delhi 6 and Slumdog Millionaire. As for her future plans, she has still to make up her mind on what she wants to do.
Mrittika, a science student, shares the top spot in the CBSE class XII exam with Tannvi Agarwal of Apeejay School, Faridabad, who is studying commerce.
The number of students scoring 90% and above rose sharply in the Class XII CBSE results declared on Friday. While the number of 90 percenters stood at 8,253 last year, This time there were 15,839.
