The auto drivers’ protest meeting against the RTA and Traffic Police authorities’ partiality and “double standards” will be held on May 14 at Press Club, Basheerbagh at 2 pm.
It may be mentioned here that the TADJAC has already given an indefinite auto bandh call from May 16 demanding immediate arrest of Ola and Uber managements for fixing their fares illegally, withdrawal of auto permit cancellation order and spot challans instead of e-challan system.
TADJAC leaders Mohd Amanullah Khan, K. Lakshminarasaiah, M.A. Saleem and Mirza Rafath Baig, in a joint press statement questioned the State government whether Ola and Ubar Cabs companies are above the law? If not, whey the Transport and Traffic Police authorities were not taking action against them despite fixing their cab fares disregarding government’s power to fix fares under Section 67 of Motor Vehicles Act. In fact, the authorities inaction only shows that they are indirectly promoting Ola and Uber cabs business and working as their agents. Further, they said the decision of the Transport and Traffic Police to cancel auto permits in connection with the auto drivers’ irregularities was not only one-sided, but also proactive.
They said there was a simmering disconent spreading among the auto drivers in the Cities. As such, there was no other alternative except to launch a “Do or Die” agitation from May 16. They appealed to the auto drivers in twin cities to attend the meeting in large number and make it a success. (NSS)
