Raqqa: Ruqia Hassan, who is believed to be the first female citizen journalist reporting inside Raqqa has been executed by ISIS, according to reports in Syrian media.
Better known as Nisan Ibrahim in social media, Ruqia was killed for writing about daily life under ISIS on her Facebook page.
Her death was confirmed by ‘Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently’ RBSS – a news website exposing human rights abuses from within Syria.
According to Syrian Journalism Organisation Syria Direct, the execution of Ruqia Hassan marks the fifth journalist who reported on ISIS to be killed since October.
Abu Mohammed, founder RBSS tweeted Hassan’s last words: “I’m in Raqqa and I received death threats, and when Isis [arrests] me and kills me it’s ok because they will cut my head and I have dignity its better than I live in humiliation with Isis [sic]”
Hassan, in her last FB post had written against ISIS’ decision to ban WIFI hotspots in Raqqa city and written: “Go ahead and cut off the internet, our messenger pigeons won’t complain.”
The news of her death comes just days after ISIS posted a 10 minutes video clip showing the execution of five alleged British spies.
@Raqqa_sl1 It's awful ! I'm very, very sad for your so brave activist friend !
