CISF guard shoots himself at Bengaluru airport

Bengaluru: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) guard, posted at the city’s international airport, allegedly committed suicide on Monday by shooting himself with his service rifle, said police.

“Suresh Gaikwad, 28, shot himself with his service rifle while on morning duty at the airport and he was declared dead when taken to a nearby hospital,” Deputy Commissioner of Police P.S. Harsha told reporters.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death, while preliminary investigations revealed that Gaikwad was under depression following a family dispute.

“Prime facie, the reason for taking the extreme step appears to be depression over a dispute in the family and the pangs of separation from his wife who divorced him recently,” said Harsha, citing Gaikwad’s colleague with whom he had shared his personal problems.

“Forensic and explosive experts are investigating the case. Gaikwad’s body will be handed over to his family members after post-mortem on Tuesday,” he added.

Gaikwad hailed from Sangli district in neighbouring Maharashtra.
