Tension prevailed at the Simhadri Power unit of the NTPC located at Parvadaq in Visakhapatnam district when CISF forces fired six rounds in the AIR to desperse the agitating fishermen community who staged dharna in front of NTPC demanding compensation, today.
A larger number of fishermen community who gathered in front of the NTPC, observed dharna and raised slogans demanding the NTPC authorities either provide employment in NTPC or remove the pipeline executed by the NTPC to release the plant waste water into the sea.
The fisherfolk alleged that they lost their livelihood due to release of the water into the sea as the sea food like fish, Pranks are perishing. The CISF guarding the power unit, resorted to cane charge and later fired six rounds in the air when the agitators pelted stones on them, according to police. One fishermen and VRO of Mutyalapalle was injured in the cane charge and not in plice fire, police added. The injured were shifted to a local government hospital. UNI
