Hyderabad, July 17: With the city police making no headway in the investigation into the alleged rape of a US woman even after a week, the case has reportedly been handed over to the CID for further investigation.
Though the police questioned several persons, they could not narrow down on the culprits.
The 30-year-old US woman, who was working as a nutritionist with the Clinton Foundation at Begumpet, alleged that she had been raped by an intruder in her house in the wee hours of July 7. The woman was residing in the penthouse of a dupleix house on Road No 11, Banjara Hills.
Earlier in the day, Hyderabad city police commissioner A K Khan said they have picked up 15 to 20 persons so far for questioning.
“We have examined 15 to 20 persons so far. Some are suspects in the crime while some others’ role was ruled out,’’ Hyderabad police commissioner AK Khan said.
The woman left for the US a few days ago for `personal reasons’. “She informed us before leaving the country and promised to extend cooperation.
Our DCP (West Zone) is in touch with her on the phone and through mail,’’ Khan said. The woman reportedly went to meet her mother in the US.
Khan said four teams were working to nab the accused.
One team is on the job of collecting scientific evidence while the other is looking into technical aspects. “A special team is also on the job picking up suspects and examining them.’’ Khan said adding that the main investigation was being handled by another team.
According to sources, the accused might have been following the movements of the woman for some days and perfectly planned the intrusion.
The accused might also be very well aware of the topography of the house, the sources said.
