CID files charge sheet against Nityananda

Banglore, November 30: The CID today filed a charge sheet against self-styled ‘godman’ Swami Nityananda and four of his associates accused of rape and other charges.

Nityananda, who runs a sprawling ashram near Bidadi in the district, was arrested after he was caught in a sleaze tape episode, wherein he was found in a compromising position with a Tamil actress and was released on bail later.

The Ramanagaram police acted on a complaint filed by his former driver and another disciple. The driver, identified as Lenin, had claimed that he had secretly taped Nityananda in the company of the actor to expose the deeds of the self-styled guru.

After the incident came to light and the tape reached all television channels, the ‘Godman’ went underground. He was later arrested by the police in Himachal Pradesh on April 21. He spent one month in judicial custody before a court granted him bail.

The 430-page charge sheet filed before Ramanagaram Chief Judicial Magistrate on November 27 has named Nityananda, Nitya Bhaktananda, Nithya Sachidananda, Nithya Sachidananda and Maa Sachidananda alias Ragini on the basis of two FIRs filed against them, a CID statement said here today.
