‘CIA spies on military mission in Iran’

Tehran, November 25: Following the arrest of a dozen US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) spies in Iran and Lebanon, a top Iranian lawmaker says the US agents were assigned to inflict a “heavy blow” to Iran.

The arrested spies were basically on a mission to cripple Iran in nuclear, military and security areas, said Parviz Sorouri, a member of Iran’s Majlis (parliament) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy on Wednesday, IRNA reported.

The Iranian legislator further pointed out that the US and Israeli intelligence services intended to “deal a severe blow” to Iran through acts of sabotage.

Former and current CIA officials have reportedly confirmed that a CIA spy network with 12 members have been apprehended in Iran and Lebanon.

Intelligence officials in Iran succeeded in uncovering the identities of a handful of CIA informants, the US officials were quoted as saying on Tuesday.

Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah also dealt a heavy blow to the CIA operations in Lebanon, forcing the US intelligence agency to curtail its espionage activities in the country.

The US sources have been quoted as saying that they now fear for the lives of the “paid informants in the two countries.”
