Christian children accused of insulting Islam, freed

A 9 and a 10 year-old Egyptian Christian children were released by an Egyptian Court.

Both were accused of insulting Islam by allegedly urinating on a paper containing verses of the Quran.

According to an AFP report, the prosecutor Abdul Maguid Mahmoud took the decision because the accused are minor.

Nabil Naji Rizq, 10, and Mina Nadi Faraj, 9, were to have been held and questioned for a week at a juvenile facility.

It is said that President Mohammed Mursi had intervened to have the two young Christians freed as they have signed international conventions on children’s rights and the detention may violate it.
