Melbourne : South African all-rounder Chris Morris has admitted he embraces the pressure that comes while batting at the lower order in the team so as to perform well.
The 29-year-old insisted the pressure is always there in the sport, but he tries to cope with it and takes it in a positive manner.
“You feel pressure in every part of cricket and I put pressure on myself because I want to perform for my team. To win a game of any sport, pressure will always be there and you have to learn to cope with it,” Morris was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
Morris revealed that he had managed to win a number of games by putting himself under pressure, saying he was well aware of the fact that he could achieve success by relishing the pressure.
“I have been able to win a few games for my team. So, I know I have been able to perform after putting myself under pressure. Once you realise that, you deal with it in different ways,” he said.
Expressing his views on the ‘limited-overs’ specialist tag, Morris asserted the only way to get rid of the tag is to start performing in the other formats of the game.
“But we all know the dream is to play Test cricket. So I put a lot of pressure on myself to perform in four-day cricket. It is quite a simple thing, and if you can bat in the longer format, you can back yourself to bat in other formats quite easily,” he said.
Morris is currently playing for the national team in the ongoing ODI tri-series, featuring Australia and West Indies in the Caribbean. (ANI)
