Chiru says Congress invited his party to join govt

Tirupati, February 2: The Praja Rajyam president, Mr K. Chiranjeevi, has said that his party was invited by the Congress party to join the government.

Talking to the media here on Tuesday, Mr Chiranjeevi said that he was yet to decide whether or not to join the government. He would discuss the matter in the party, before taking a decision, he added. He said that Defence Minister, Mr A K Antony, invited him to come to New Delhi to discuss the matter. Stating that the matter was under consideration, he said that he would meet his party colleagues on February 3 or 4 and decide about going to New Delhi.

However, the PRP senior leader, Mr Ganga Srinivasa Rao, said that reports that the PRP would be merging with Congress party were not correct. He said that the Congress wanted the PRP to join the government and Mr Antony had come to Hyderabad to extend invitation on behalf of the Congress party to join the government. He said that at no point discussion on merger did not take place.

Meanwhile, Mr Antony said that he came to Hyderabad only as an emissary of the Congress high command. Mr Antony reached the Shamshabad airport to go back to New Delhi after his meeting with Mr Chiranjeevi at around 1900 hrs. He spoke to the media for a while along with the PCC Chief, Mr D Srinivas. Mr Srinivas said that Antony held talks with the PRP chief in view of the changing political situation in the country. Stating that he had no more details, Mr Srinivas said that it was up to the party high command to take a decision.
