Chiru to meet Sonia for finalization

Hyderabad, March 20: Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi will visit New Delhi on Sunday on a call from the Congress leadership.

He is likely to meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi and party in-charges for Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

It will be his first visit to Delhi since he announced his party’s decision for merger with the Congress last month after a meeting with Ms. Gandhi. Party sources stated that Mr. Chiranjeevi is likely to thank Ms. Gandhi for supporting the election of his associate C. Ramachandraiah to the Legislative Council. The final formalities of PR’s merger with the Congress and the public meeting planned to make the merger official would also be discussed.

Besides, the Congress leadership is learnt to be planning to use Mr. Chiranjeevi’s services in the campaigning for the Tamil Nadu elections. “In all likelihood, he will campaign in support of DMK-Congress alliance seeking votes from Telugu-speaking people and his fans, considering the fact that Tamil Nadu politics is dominated by film personalities,” a senior leader of PR said.

It would be the first task the Congress leadership was planning to give to Mr. Chiranjeevi as the party was considering a larger role for him in Andhra Pradesh and elsewhere. His crowd-pulling and vote-mobilising capabilities would definitely be on a test during his Tamil Nadu mission, the party sources noted.
