Hyderabad, May 12: The Praja Rajyam Party president and political novice, Mr K. Chiranjeevi, who jumped enthusiastically at the offer of the Congress party to merge PRP and become an important member of the Congress family, is now slowly understanding the way the Congress party plays its politics and uses persons only to the extent they were useful.
The Congress leadership has thrown cold water on Mr Chiranjeevi’s enthusiasm to conduct the merger meeting on a ‘Mega’ scale and invite the Congress president, Ms Sonia Gandhi, or the heir-apparent, Mr Rahul Gandhi. Now he is not in a position to state if the meeting was going to be a mega affair, leave alone if Ms Sonia Gandhi or Mr Rahul attending it. It is learnt that the AICC AP in-charge, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, is believed to have told Mr Chiranjeevi that the merger would be announced either at the AICC office in New Delhi or the PCC office at Hyderabad at a simple ceremony. It is also learnt that a disappointed Chiranjeevi has gone to Mr Veerappa Moily, who had earlier assured him that the merger meeting could be organized by him on a large scale, and complained to him about what Mr Azad has said. Mr. Moily is believed to have expressed his helplessness stating that as Mr Azad was the in-charge now, whatever he said was final.
It is said that Ms Sonia Gandhi, who sent an important leader like the Defence Minister, Mr A K Antony, to Mr Chiranjeevi to urge him for merger when the Congress government in the State faced the imminent threat of being pulled down by Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, is no longer enthusiastic about Mr Chiranjeevi’s presence in the party as she has already heard that his campaigning in Kadapa had literally no effect on the prospects of Mr Jagan or his mother, whom she wanted to snub for defiance of her authority. It is said that though Mr Chiranjeevi has tried to meet Ms Gandhi, he could not get her appointment. Ms Gandhi’s aides reportedly told Mr Chiranjeevi that Ms Gandhi was busy with the elections of five States.
