Hyderabad, April 26: Praja Rajyam president K Chiranjeevi will embark on `Polavaram Sadhana Bus Yatra’ from Antarvedi in East Godavari district from May 5.
A meeting, held under the presidentship of Chiranjeevi at the party office here today, elected party leader Jyotula Nehru as president of the Sadhana Committee.
Briefing reporters later, Nehru and Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao said that Chiranjeevi’s bus yatra would cover East Godavari, West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts, and conclude on May 16. A massive public meeting will be held either on May 16 or May 18 at the Polavarm project site.
Terming the decision on bus yatra for the cause of Polavaram as historic, they said that when the project had been conceived some 100 years ago it was estimated to cost just Rs 125 crore and escalated now to around Rs 14,000 crore.
“If the project is delayed further, the cost will escalate further,’’ they feared and appealed to the state government to complete the project at the earliest.
