Chiru announces Rs 50 Lakhs for Hudhud; asks Naidu to seek more Central Aid

Congress MP Dr K Chiranjeevi today announced allocation of Rs 50 lakh from his MPLADS fund towards “Hudhud” cyclone Relief Fund.

Expressing concern over the cyclone effect which devastated three coastal districts, Chiranjeevi urged the Centre to consider Hudhud as a national calamity and give adequate financial succor. Chiranjeevi said he would tour the cyclone-hit areas along with Congress national leaders on October 18 and 19. He expressed surprise over Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not announcing Hudhud cyclone as a national calamity, but only announced Rs 1,000-crore financial assistance to AP Government to take up relief measures. He appealed to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who sought Rs 2,000 crore from the Centre, should exert pressure to get adequate financial aid, he said.

While Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts were devastated, East Godavari district was partly affected in the cyclone which has telling impact on poor, middle class, fishermen and daily wage workers, he said. He said though human loss was less, Hudhud caused colossal loss of assets beyond estimation. There is a need for scientific approach to estimate actual loss of assets, he said. He also said his fans swung into action by distributing water, food and biscuits among the victims. Chiranjeevi appealed to Mega fans to participate voluntarily in relief and rescue measures till normalcy restored. (NSS)
