Chiranjeevi’s party to hold protests against price rise

Hyderabad, October 11: Chiranjeevi-led Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) would hold protests against price rise and other people’s issues from October 14.

“We will take up protests from October 14 at constituency headquarters,” party President Chiranjeevi told reporters here today after returning to the city from a visit to the US.

The ongoing suicides of poor people in Andhra Pradesh due to the harassment by micro-finance institutions is extremely painful, he charged.

“We had so far suicides by farmers and weavers. Now, we have suicides due to the micro-finance firms. It is unfortunate that the governments are not doing enough to help the poor,” he said.

To a query, the actor-turned-politician said no discussion has taken place in his party on joining the Congress Government.

Praja Rajyam became close to the ruling Congress after Chiranjeevi agreed to a request from Sonia Gandhi not to field his party nominees in the Rajya Sabha polls.
