Hyderabad, June 28: Actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi on Sunday demanded that the government confer Bharat Ratna award on late prime minister PV Narasimha Rao.
“The economic reforms boldly initiated by him helped India march forward on the path of progress. The country has been able to compete with major countries since then,” the Praja Rajyam Party chief, told reporters here.
“We have to introspect whether we are giving the respect and recognition that he truly deserves. On behalf of our Praja Rajyam Party and myself, we feel ‘Bharat Ratna’ award should be given to him,” he said.
Chiranjeevi was speaking at the ‘PV Gyan Bhoomi’ here after paying floral tributes to the former Prime Minister on the occasion of his 89th birth anniversary.
