Chiranjeevi criticises TDP leaders for going to Babli project

Vijayawada, July 19: Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) President Chiranjeevi today criticised Telugu Desam Party(TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu and host of MLAs for going to Maharashtra to inspect the Babli project being constructed across river Godavari.

Taking to mediapersons here, he said going to the Babli project by the TDP leaders was a ‘hasty step’ since an all party delegation led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah would meet Prime Minister Manmohn Singh in New Delhi on July 23 on the Babli project issue. “We have to resolve the water disputes with neighboring states in an amicable manner by bringing the matter before the Central Water committee or the Apex court,” he said.

Mr Chiranjeevi made it clear that the PRP would not support to the bandh call given by the TDP to protest the arrest of former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and other leaders.

However, the PRP leader condemned the ill-treatment meted out to the TDP leaders, including Mr Naidu in Maharashtra.

Menwhile, Congress leader and local MLA Malladi Vishnu at a press conference took exception to the visit of Babli project by the TDP leaders led by Mr Naidu.

“The TDP leaders can present their arguments before the Supreme Court during the hearing of the Babli project dispute that will come up on August five,” he added.

The Congress party would not extend support to the bandh call given by the TDP, he said.
