Chirag Paswan stands by Nitish’s liquor ban decision

Patna: Lok Janshakti Party leader Chirag Paswan on Thursday said his party welcomes the decision of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to ban liquor in the state.

“During his previous tenure as chief minister, we saw an increase in liquor prices in the state. The numbers of liquor shops opened in the past 10 years are much higher. It was a matter of worry for all of us,” he said.

“Consumption of alcohol will destroy the coming generation also. I’m happy that the Chief Minister has thought of taking such step,” he added.

Earlier, Bihar Nitish Kumar announced a ban on the sale of liquor from April 1.

Speaking at a function in Patna on the occasion of Liquor Prohibition Day, Kumar said he is fulfilling his pledge made during the recently concluded-assembly elections in the state.

He said the ban on liquor would be effective from the next financial year.

Kumar said officials of the excise department were working on to chalk out a new liquor policy. (ANI)
