In the latest development, former union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Chinmayanand, accused of rape, has confessed to all the sexual harassment charges him on Friday.
Special Investigation Team (SIT) Chief Naveen Arora while interacting with media, said, “Chinmayanand has admitted to almost every allegation levelled against him, including sexual conversations and body massage.”
Circumstantial evidence is currently being examined by police. The SIT chief further stated, “Chinmayanand said he doesn’t want to say more as he’s ashamed of his acts.”
The 23-year-old law student from Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district had accused the 73-year-old politician of blackmail and raping and sexually harassing for more than a year.
The woman posted the video message on the social media on August 23.
Chinmayanand, meanwhile, had been evading questioning by the SIT. Earlier this week, he complained of ‘uneasiness’ and ‘weakness’ and was kept under house arrest in his ashram.
He was treated by a team of doctors at his ashram and was later shifted to the hospital after his condition showed no signs of improvement.
