Chinese President arrives in Vietnam to strengthen ties

Hanoi, Nov. 5 : Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the Vietnamese capital today on his two-day state visit to the neighbouring country.

This is Jinping’s first visit to Vietnam as China’s head of state, reported the Xinhua. The Chinese President is accompanied by his wife Peng Liyuan.

The Chinese President on his arrival expressed hope that his visit would help cement the friendship between the two states and lift China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new level.

Jinping recalled the visit by Nguyen Phu Trong, the general secretary of the CPV Central Committee, to China earlier this year. He said the consensus reached between the two sides is now being implemented and the bilateral relationship is moving forward to the building of China-Vietnam community of common destiny.

During his two-day visit, Jinping is expected to meet separately with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung. He will also address the Vietnamese Parliament.

The two sides are expected to sign a host of agreements on areas such as party-to-party cooperation, infrastructure, economy, trade, investment, culture and education.

The two countries are celebrating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.

Relations between China and Vietnam saw a low point last year due to disputes over the South China Sea, but the times have changed with frequent high-level contacts this year. (ANI)
