Chinese official sentenced to 18 years for rape and graft

A Chinese official has been sentenced to 18 years in prison on charges of rape and graftin south China’s Guangdong Province.

According to Dongguan No.1 People’s Court, Huang Ping, former head of Humen Traffic Bureau, embezzled 980,000 yuan
(about USD 1,57,100), took bribes up to 2.15 million yuan and illegally appropriated national assets involving 410,000 yuan.

The corruption case came to light after police started investigating a rape case involving Huang, a report in the
official China.org.cn said.

Huang was accused of raping a female subordinate between March 2010 and April 2011.

The woman’s husband found that she was in her seventh month of pregnancy, though the couple had been childless for
seven years. She confessed that she had been raped and the husband called police.

Eight other transportation officials also implicated in the graft investigation were sentenced by the court.
