Chinese mats to be used on Yoga Day: Congress taunts ‘Make in India’ initiative

Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Saturday took a jibe at the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative over reports that Chinese mats would be used during the International Yoga Day celebrations.
“It is surprising that the one who raised slogans for ‘Make in India’, they will practise yoga on Chinese mats. Nothing could be more laughable than this. On one hand, slogans are raised about Make in India, preaches about yoga in the countries,” Alvi told ANI.

“Tomorrow, more than 40,000 people would be there on the yoga day, the roads of Delhi have been blocked. And the Prime Minister will perform yoga on mats being made by China, this is only laughable,” he added.

The yoga celebrations are being organised after the United Nations had in December last year declared June 21 as International Yoga Day, with 177 countries voting in favour.

The proposal was mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the UN General Assembly last year. (ANI)
