China warns India over building longest bridge close to the border

Last week PM Narendra Modi has inaugurated India’s longest bridge linking Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, that really did not go down well with the neighboring country China, as it has warned India against building infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry in a statement told IANS that “We hope India adopts a cautious and restrained attitude on the issue before the final settlement of the border issue with China to jointly control disputes, safeguard peace and tranquility in the border areas”.

The statement further added “China’s position on the eastern section of the Sino-Indian border areas is consistent and clear”

The border dispute between China and India over Arunachal Pradesh, with Beijing claiming Arunachal Pradesh as its own and falling under its territory referring to it as ‘southern Tibet’.

PM has recently inaugurated India’s longest bridge covering vast Brahmaputra River in the northeastern state of Assam. The bridge is named as Dhola-Sadiya which is a 9.15km stretch, powerful enough to carry a 60-tonne battle tank, bridging the time gap to an hour.

Claiming Arunachal Pradesh as its territory, China last month has strongly protested against 81-yr-old spiritual leader Dalai Lama’s visit to the state.

India replied to it saying the spiritual leader’s visit was only to promote peace harmony in the state and had no other political intentions, reported in Economic Times.
