Beijing, May 02: China on Sunday expressed concern over the NATO air strikes in which Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s youngest son and three grandchildren were killed.
Gaddafi and his wife escaped the NATO missile strike at the residence of his youngest son in the capital Tripoli yesterday.
“The Chinese side has noticed reports that Gaddafi’s son, Saif al-Arab, and others were killed in the raids,” said Jiang Yu, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
“We are concerned about the deaths and injuries of civilians caused by the escalating conflict in Libya,” Jiang was quoted as saying by state-run Xinhua news agency in response to a question.
China disapproves of any act beyond the authorisation of the UN Security Council and hopes that all relevant parties will immediately cease fire and resolve the crisis politically through dialogue and other peaceful means, she added.
