Children’s workshop at Microsoft

Hyderabad, May 14: A very cheerful and colourful sight was to be seen on the humongous campus of Microsoft Hyderabad on May 13 — with their initiative of Bring Your Child to Work Day, the venue was bustling with enthusiastic kids and their parents.

The excitement was mutual for the parents and their lil’ ones as employees were given an opportunity to let their families get a sneak-peek into their work lives. And to top it off, the kids had an entire day of fun scheduled for them in a completely different ambience.

With a theme of ‘Go Green’, the day-long activities were planned for the kids to not just have fun, but also learn something and get a hunch of the work style in the organisation.

The day kick-started with a dance themed activity, followed by a fun-filled cum learning session of crafts using waste materials like newspapers and more.

Saritha Singh, a mum of two, and director at Microsoft, shared, “My kids look forward to this event every year — this is the best way for us to show the children a completely different environment. Plus, this year we have an eco-friendly theme so that the kids not only have fun, but also get to learn something about protecting the environment.”

Throwing some light on this initiative, Senthil Gnanasekaran, HR director, Microsoft, said, “This is the fifth year that we are celebrating this day. The main idea is to not only have a bond with the employees, but also their respective families.”

He further explained, “We actually encourage employees’ kids to come to office any day — for us it is about giving the kids an opportunity to peek into work lives of their parents.”

Post lunch, followed other fun activities like treasure hunt, a fashion show for kids and much more.

While on one side, some kids were spotted playing games, others were busy socialising. Simran Kaur, senior test manager, Microsoft, added, “The best part about this initiative is that is a day-long event, which ensures that we get to spend some quality time with our children.”

“It is a perfect collaboration of family and work life, striking a balance work-life balance. This initiative simply brought everyone at this organisation a lot closer.

The employees and kids, both love it!”expressed Raja Seera, an employee at Microsoft.

The day-long event kept the kids completely engaged. They made new friends, learnt important lessons on team building, environment and technology.

They went home happy, with a deeper understanding of their parents’ contribution to the organisation.
