Home Minister P Sabitha Indira Reddy on Friday admitted that there was a rise in the cases of kidnapping of children in the State.
Replying to a question raised by Praja Rajyam Party MLAs B Satyananda Rao and V Vanga Geetha, the minister said as many as 2110 children have been kidnapped in the State. Of them, the police has rescued 2,068 children from the kidnappers, till now.
The minister said that the cases were being registered promptly and investigated thoroughly under the supervision of senior officers. Case-wise special teams were formed to rescue the kidnapped children. She said awareness programs were being taken up. School managements and parents were being requested to verify the antecedents of auto drivers or school bus drivers.
The school managements are also being instructed not to permit or allow the strangers into their school premises, she said.
