Chief Secretary reviews strike situation

Hyderabad, September 22: The State Government has directed the officials to ensure that the emergency services like water supply, health and sanitation are not affected to due to the on-going general strike.

Chief Secretary SV Prasad on Wednesday held discussions with the Task Forces constituted on Power, Transport and Revenue-Finance at Secretariat. Officials of the task forces explained to the Chief Secretary about the steps being taken to maintain power supply with minimum disturbances and to ensure and provide alternate transport arrangements for the common public.

The officials claimed that the APSRTC along with the Transport department is making all out efforts to run as many services as possible to help the common people who are suffering due to buses going off the roads. The task force on power is coordinating coal supply and allotments to various Thermal units and also generation of maximum power. The task officials are also monitoring power purchases from outside the State and all other possible sources. The other task force on Revenue-Finance is monitoring the revenue collections and day-to-day financial commitments of the Government.

The Chief Secretary directed the task force officials to see that the common man is not put to any hardships and normal life of the people is not affected much. He also asked AP Transco to see that 7 hours of free power supply of farmers is maintained even amidst the present crisis since agricultural operations and farmers interests are of paramount interest. He has asked the officials to see that transport and supply of essential items are not affected due to the transport strike. The Chief Secretary once again asked the Railway authorities to increase the frequency of MMTS and local trains in view of the RTC strike.

The Chief Secretary also asked the Health Department to see that all Government hospitals work normally and patients are attended and emergency operations are done so that the patients do not undergo any problems.
