New Delhi, December 10: The Centre today invited TRS Chief K Chandrashekhara Rao to Delhi for further consultations on the Telangana issue. Home Minister P Chidambaram said in Rajya Sabha that he had spoken with Mr Rao this morning and by and large, normalcy had been restored in the state.
”I have invited him to come to Delhi to discuss the matter further…By and large normalcy has been restored,” the Home Minister said in response to a demand raised by BJP’s Venkaiah Naidu.
The Minister also reiterated that all cases against Telangana activists would be withdrawn.
The Centre has requested the state government to withdraw all cases filed on or after November 29 against all leaders, students and those associated with the Telangana agitation.
Mr Naidu wanted to know why the Home Minister had disclosed to the media about the decisions taken at yesterday’s meeting convened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the Telangana issue when Parliament was in session. Clarifying, the Home Minister said that when the matter was raised yesterday, the government was not in a position to respond as the meeting was still on.
The meeting ended late in the evening and at that time he was not in a position to convey it to the House.
The Minister, however, said what he had told the media, was just a ”re-statement of an earlier decision taken by the government.” Referring to his telephonic conversation with Mr Rao, the Home Minister said the TRS Chief had welcomed yesterday’s announcement.
