Chidambaram expresses helplessness on Telangana

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has expressed centre’s helplessness in resolving the Telangana tangle. He said solution to the problem was only in the hands of the political parties of Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking on the matter in the context of the Telangana MPs blocking Parliament’s proceedings, he said there was no use even in holding an all-party meeting on the issue, until there was clarity in the minds of the political parties on the issue. He said the centre could do nothing, until political parties of the state were clear about their stand. He said if they get this clarity, the centre would call an all-party meeting. He said the central government would have convened such a meeting if there was such a clarity in the stands of AP’s political parties. Referring to the demand for a separate Rayalaseema state, Chidambaram has questioned how a decision would be possible when each party was demanding a different thing.

It may be mentioned that Chidambaram has been stating that Congress, TDP, MIM and YSR Congress parties were yet to clarify their stand on Telangana issue. The centre would be able to do something on the matter only when these parties clarify their stand on the matter, he said on several earlier occasions. (NSS)
