Telangana Civil Supplies Minister Etela Rajendar conducted a chicken festival in secretariat on Thursday to signal that there was no bird flu (avian influenza in chicken) in the state.
Rajendar said that false rumors about bird flu had been plaguing the poultry industry for the last few months. Even early this month a bird flu scare started at Hayatnagar near Hyderabad. “There is nothing to fear about chicken and one could eat it heartily and enjoy the delicious meat,” he said as he himself dug into a leg piece at the venue.
Hundreds of packets of chicken biriyani, and chicken 65 were distributed at the D block conference hall to a gathering of journalists and other staff. “Many carried the packed chicken home too,” said a scribe at D block.
