Chhota Shakeel’s close aide held in Mumbai

Mumbai, November 16: A close aide of Gangster Chhota Shakeel, who carried out underworld activities in India and abroad, was arrested from the city, police said today.

Acting on a tip off, police apprehended Mirza Arif Baig, who is wanted in connection with several murder, attempt to murder and extortion cases, yesterday from Ghatkopar area, they said.

Mirza, who was staying in Colombo in Sri Lanka for the last couple of months with a fake name Nasir, had flown back to Mumbai on Saturday, Joint Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria said.

Mirza obtained a fake passport in the name of Nasir from Uttar Pradesh in 2004, Maria said.

“Mirza handled operations of Shakeel abroad including Bangkok, Malasia, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Colombo and China,” he said, adding “the gangster was responsible for a spate of murders in Mumbai as well.
