Gangster Chhota Rajan was on Thursday produced before a special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court in Mumbai via video-conferencing from Tihar Jail in connection with the 2011 journalist J. Dey murder case.
Special Judge A.L. Pansare explained the J. Dey case to Rajan and later send him into custody. Special Public Prosecutor Dileep Shah said the next date of the case is January 19, when charges would be framed against Rajan.
CBI official said Rajan had moved an application in a Delhi court, saying he should not be sent to Mumbai, as there is threat to his life. However, the CBI has been granted permission to carry out investigations in the case.
During the hearing, Judge Pansare reprimanded the Mumbai Police for not serving the copy of the charge sheet to Rajan.
Last week, the Bombay High Court designated a Special Court in Mumbai to try cases involving Rajan. (ANI)
